Donated Dolls
We are pleased to announce that now the Covid-19 virus is deemed to have been brought under reasonable control, Brisbane Doll Society are again able to accept your donated dolls. As we are now finished meeting for 2020 we would ask if you could kindly hold your donations until we recommence business in February 2021 to ensure our hardworking Committee (& our wonderful President Elaine in particular), have a well-deserved break after the stresses of 2020!
We thank you for your generous donations which will help us fund-raise for the Mater Hospital’s ‘Little Miracles Foundation’ for premature infants.
During the Covid-19 epidemic, Brisbane Doll Society Inc’s regular Monthly meetings are held on-line using the ZOOM Cloud app which needs to be downloaded. An Invitation will be emailed or messaged to all current BDS Members.
In normal circumstances, Brisbane Doll Society Inc holds Monthly Meetings alternately at (North side) Bar-Jai Community Hall – cnr Haig & Alexandra Roads, Clayfield Qld 4011 & (South side) Bethania Community Centre – 88-118 Station Rd, Bethania QLD 4205. Occasionally a Member will hold a Meeting at their private home where their collection may also be viewed.
Our Annual ‘Doll & Teddy Bear Fair’ is usually held in August at the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre, 241 Tingal Road, Wynnum. Funds raised go to Mater Hospital’s Little Miracles Foundation (for premature babies). In the past 12 years we have donated in excess of $34,000.00 to the Mater Little Miracles!!
In 2020 due to Covid-19 we have regrettably
cancelled our Annual Doll Fair.
Our BIGGEST Morning Tea / Luncheon on Thursday 28/5/20 went really well & together we raised over $500 for The Cancer Council!!! A TREMENDOUS EFFORT seeing we had to conduct it ONLINE via ZOOM!!! A lot of fun, beautiful displays & fancy food was had, not to mention the Competitions, Raffles, Scavenger Hunt, Quiz & Prizes for Best Settings etc. Here’s a few photos to ponder…
Brisbane Doll Society Inc – Socially Distanced Meeting
This month’s meeting had 12 participants willing to brave the murky realms of on-line meetings. With a couple of late starters due to technical difficulties & another couple unfortunately bumped out with similar issues, this month’s meeting was again declared a success!
In keeping with our original theme based on the 2020 Olympic Games (unfortunately postponed due to Covid-19), our Competition still gained wide participation from Members. The scope was expanded to include Winning in any area of life, so there were some interesting entries….
Brisbane Doll Society Inc regret to advise that during the Coronavirus Pandemic we are unable to accept your kind offers of Donated Dolls. Due to the nature of the virus transmission it would put both yourself & our Members at risk. Under normal circumstances, any donated dolls are sold on to interested Members at our monthly meetings or to the general public at our Annual August Doll & Bear Fair (which is also cancelled for 2020). The proceeds are then donated to our chosen Charity – Mater Hospital’s Little Miracles Foundation for premature infant babies. Thank you very much for your prior donations & we hope to be able to accept them again in the not-too-distant future. Please take care!

It is with deep sadness we regret to advise that our Founding Member, the wonderful Norma Goodall, has passed away.
Our sincerest sympathies go to Norma’s beloved daughter Neryl, and family.
Norma gathered a few fellow doll-enthusiasts in her home back in 1976 & proposed they form a ‘club’. Hence the Brisbane Doll Society Inc was formed. Still going strong 43 years later, we have EVERYTHING to thank Norma for – her wondrous vision saw the club grow from those first 6 Members to what it is today! A simply FANTASTIC achievement for a hobby that has had its fair share of HIGHS & TROUGHS, the enthusiasm for preserving & collecting dolls today is stronger than ever!
THANK YOU NORMA for your beautiful spirit. We will never forget you!! – – VALE NORMA!
